Privacy Policy
In short
- Deskr has no account and no server of its own. The developer never receives your shortcuts, feeds, settings or browsing data.
- Your desktop is stored in Chrome and synced between your computers by Chrome Sync, under your own Google account.
- The extension contains no analytics, no ads and no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising.
- Some features talk to outside services, such as the weather forecast or your RSS feeds. The tables below list each one, what is sent and when.
What Deskr stores, and where
Everything Deskr keeps stays in your browser profile:
- Chrome Sync storage (
chrome.storage.sync): shortcuts and folders, profiles, the list of RSS feeds and categories, widgets and settings. Chrome syncs this to the other computers where you are signed in to Chrome with sync turned on. It is stored by Google as part of your Chrome Sync data and is covered by Google's Privacy Policy. - Local storage on this computer: uploaded icons and background images, fetched RSS articles, imported bookmark libraries, pages waiting to be added from the context menu, and the Taskr sign-in token. None of this leaves your computer, except as described below.
- Backup files: if you use Export to JSON, the file is saved where you choose. Deskr does not upload it anywhere.
Deskr reads your Chrome bookmarks, most visited sites or the current tab only when you use the feature that needs them, and only on your computer.
Services Deskr talks to
When you use these features, your browser connects directly to the service. As with any web request, the service sees your IP address and the request itself. Deskr sends nothing else about you.
Outside services
| Service | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Chrome Sync) | Always, if Chrome sync is on | Your Deskr desktop and settings, as described above |
| Google favicon service | Showing a shortcut's site icon | The site's domain name |
| jsDelivr | Icons from the dashboard-icons library and weather icons | The icon being loaded |
| Open-Meteo | Choosing a city for the weather widget | The city name you type |
| MET Norway (api.met.no) | Weather widget turned on | The coordinates of the city you chose (Deskr does not use your device's location) |
| Unsplash | Browsing and picking backgrounds | Your search terms and the photo you pick |
| Your RSS feed sites | Checking feeds you added | A normal request for the feed |
| Your shortcut sites | Checking for broken links, when you start it | A normal request for each link |
| Taskr (taskr.cc) | Only after you sign in to Taskr | Your Taskr sign-in token and the requests of the Taskr board |
| Google Drive | Only if you connect Drive (not in every version) | Your uploaded images, in a hidden app folder of your own Drive |
Your search queries go to your default search engine through Chrome, the same as searching from the address bar. Pictures and videos inside RSS articles load from the sites that published them.
Taskr
The Taskr tab is optional. Signing in opens Taskr's own sign-in page in a separate browser window, so Deskr never sees your Taskr password. Deskr keeps only the sign-in token on your computer, and signing out removes it. Your tasks are stored by Taskr, under Taskr's own terms and privacy policy.

What each permission is for

Your control over your data
- Export your whole desktop at any time with Settings → Sync → Export to JSON.
- Removing the extension deletes its data from that computer. To remove synced data from your Google account, use Chrome's sync data controls.
- Optional permissions can be withdrawn any time in
chrome://extensions→ Deskr → Details.
The developer does not hold any of your Deskr data, so there is nothing to request or delete on their side. You can still write with any question.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Deskr's use of information received from Chrome and Google APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide Deskr's features, is not sold, is not used for advertising or creditworthiness, and is not read by people.
This website
This website (deskr.cc) uses self-hosted, cookie-free OpenPanel analytics to count page views and clicks, such as on Add to Chrome. It sets no cookies and is not used for advertising. The extension does not include it.
Changes and contact
If Deskr starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
